THE WASHINGTON D.C. DERMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY
MEETING MINUTES

Host: Inova Fairfax Hospital
Saturday, December 06, 2008

The business meeting was called to order by Dr. Roselyn E. Epps at 9:40am.

NEW BUSINESS

MEMBERSHIP:  The applications for membership for Christine Dewitt M.D., Shabnam Shahabadi M.D. and George Verghese M.D. were voted upon and all three were accepted for membership.  Applications for Ali Hendi M.D. and Thomas Enelow M.D. were accepted and will be presented for voting at the next meeting.

CORRESPONDENCE:  Our Society received a thank you letter from Daryl Rigel M.D. for a $1,500 contribution to the Dermatology Foundation.  The Society received a letter from the ASDS concerning a letter sent by the ASDS to the DC Board of Medicine regarding medical spas.  An ASDS survey of their dermatologist members revealed that 65% of the members have seen patients for complications resulting from cosmetic procedures supervised by non-dermatologists at medical spas and 92% have seen patients who have had medical complications or medical problems that were overlooked by non-dermatologist physicians at medical spas.  Dr. Sandy Read stated that Tina Alster M.D. is our local representative to the ASDS and that our members should report injuries from medical spas to her.

TREASURY REPORT: The Society currently has $23,747.35 in our bank account, $38,339, $21,660 and $31,648 in three CDs and $187,464.72 in our Merrill Lynch Scholarship Account.

501C-3 STATUS:  This non-profit tax status requires community involvement from our members.  To facilitate this, the society has established a Community Outreach Committee which is currently served by Nina Fisher M.D., Maria Turner M.D. and Ivy Lee M.D. (resident member).  Dr. Lee spoke about volunteer opportunities for our members.  Coming soon to our Society website will be a volunteer form which will allow our members to document our efforts and receive credit for pro-bono work seeing patients in our offices that are referred from non-profit medical clinics such as the Whitman-Walker Clinic.  When such patients are seen in your offices, pathology and laboratory services will be provided by the clinic.

CME: Dr. Alan Moshell briefly spoke and said that CME credit for THE WASHINGTON D.C. DERMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY is in the final stages of planning and should be in place for the January meeting.

OLD BUSINESS

Respectfully submitted,
Todd E. Perkins, MD
