MEETING MINUTES

Business Meeting called to order by Dr. Vincenzo Giannelli at 9:10pm.

OLD BUSINESS

Minutes of meeting at NIH were presented and approved.

NEW BUSINESS

MEMBERSHIP: The applications of Dr. Joseph Lee and Dr. Joanne Simpson were presented. They will be voted on at the next meeting. Methods to increase membership were discussed. A search will be held on the AAD database and a letter sent to local non-member dermatologists inviting them to attend a meeting. Membership applications can be found on the web page: www.dcdermsociety.com.

BUDGET: The 2007-2008 budget was discussed and approved.

DUES: Dr. Giannelli reported that there has been an issue collecting from some members. If dues are not paid, a phone call will be made to the physician’s office as a reminder. If dues are not paid by a set date, the physician’s name will be removed from the website as a member.

GRANTS: Information and applications are available for the D.C. Derm Society grants on the web page: www.dcdermsociety.com.

PHYSICIAN ASSISTANTS: A member has inquired if physician assistants can attend the meetings. Physicians assistants will be allowed to become non-voting members with an annual dues of $50. The by-laws will be adjusted in accordance.

DONATIONS: A $500 donation will be made to the Leukemia Society in honor of Dr. Robert Adrian. A $1,000 donation will be made to the Dermatology Foundation as many dermatology societies are donors.

CME CREDITS (effective March 2007):
D.C. Derm Society meetings are 2.75 AAD Category 1
D.C. Derm Day is 4.5 AAD Category 1

Beginning January 2008, individual institutions will need to apply for AMA accreditation. Washington Hospital Center and Fairfax Hospital have submitted applications.

SKIN CANCER SCREENINGS: A screening will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building health fair on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007 from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Volunteers are needed and should contact Dr. Giannelli at vfgiann@aim.com.

Over the summer, Dr. Roselyn Epps talked to Dr. James Rotchford regarding a skin cancer screening at the local PGA tour event next summer. He will keep the Society informed regarding the arrangements.

AAD: Dr. Giannelli announced that positions are open as the society member to the AAD Advisory Council and as society member to the Medicare Carrier Advisory Council. Interested members should contact Dr. Giannelli.

MEETINGS:
D.C. Derm Day has been changed to March 7, 2008.

The next D.C. Derm meeting will be the Resident Appreciation Dinner at Kenwood Country Club on Tuesday, November 6, 2007.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:45pm.
