WASHINGTON D.C. DERMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING MINUTES
Date: September 26, 2006
Host: Washington Hospital Center

Call to order: Dr. Mark Welch called the meeting to order at 9:15pm.

Minutes: The minutes from the May 23, 2006 meeting at NIH were accepted.

Atlantic Dermatological Conference Report:
Dr. Sandra Read reported that the ADC was financially successful. Through fundraising efforts, there was a profit of $179,000. Suggestions were made regarding how to spend the money, including education and community efforts. A committee will be formed, chaired by Dr. Read, to make recommendations. Dr. Todd Perkins volunteered to serve on the committee. Contact Dr. Read with any ideas.

Treasurer’s Report:
Dr. Roselyn Epps reported that all accounts are at Bank of America. As of July 31, 2006, the balances were as follows:

  • Checking Accounts: Operating Acct $ 46,093.13
  • Atlantic Derm Account $179,972.68
  • Certificates of Deposit (3) $ 85,594.18
  • Total cash available $311,659.99

The proposed 2007 budget was unanimously approved.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Maria L. Turner, M.D. announced a familial/genetic study of keloids at NIH. Contact her
    at mlturner@mail.nih.gov or Jason Clark at 301-496-6067 or clarkja@od.nih.gov.
     
  2. The academic schedule was distributed to the membership. Please note the following:
    • Kenwood Country Club Tuesday, October 24, 2006
    • D.C. Derm Day Friday, March 23, 2007
    • NIH Tuesday, June 12, 2007
     
  3. A membership update form was distributed to update membership addresses, emails, etc.
    Also, a member survey should be completed. The information collected is for member
    information.
     
  4. Dr. Giannelli reported that a successful skin cancer screening was held September 22, 2006.
    Drs. Welch, Giannelli, Read and Tanzi screened 110 patients.
  5. Dues of $100 should be mailed to G. William Graves. Over half the membership has already paid their dues.
     
  6. Dr. Epps reported that efforts have begun to update the bylaws. The executive committee met with members of the AAD DC office to do this. The draft will be posted 30 days in advance; suggestions shall be received and discussed prior to the vote.
     
  7. No names were brought forth for membership. Inquiries will be made regarding pending applications.
     
  8. Dr. Giannelli will announce future skin cancer screenings and area meetings.
     
  9. Next Meeting: Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 6:30 PM at Kenwood Country Club.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:30pm.
