THE WASHINGTON D.C. DERMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY
MEETING MINUTES

Host: Washington Hospital Center
Tuesday, September 23, 2008

The business meeting was called to order by Dr. Roselyn E. Epps at 9:35pm.

NEW BUSINESS

MEMBERSHIP: Membership applications for three new members were accepted and will be presented for voting at the next meeting.

TREASURY REPORT: The cash balances were reported.  As of August 31, 2008, there was $28,044.10 in the operating account, a combined $91,718.80 in three CD’s and $185,195.25 in the Scholarship Account.

BUDGET: The budget for the Year Ended July 31, 2009 was presented.  An expected income from Dues of $14,000 was listed on the budget.  This was based on the number of members who paid their dues for 2008.  Dr. Epps stated that over 40 previous members did not pay their dues last year.  She stated that for 2009 members who do not pay dues will not receive CME credit for meeting attendance.  Other suggestions from members in attendance were to make sure those 2009 members will have to pay unpaid dues from last year, and that members unpaid for 2 years should be removed from our website referral list.

CME: Dr. Moshell announced that we are moving forward with the establishing AMA PRA Category 1 CME for the Dermatological Society through the Washington Hospital Center.  At this point, the delay is due to a change in the ACCME application process.  The organization has moved to an online application.  It is not yet available online, and they are not taking any more paper applications.  Members should look in the email inbox for a CME survey.  Please fill it out as it is required to show our need and merit for participation with the program.

OLD BUSINESS
The minutes from the meeting at the National Institutes of Health were presented and approved.

SCHOLARHIP GRANTS: No applications for the grants have been submitted.  Letters will be sent to department chairs reminding them that these grants are available to residents and fellows of the Washington DC Dermatological Society.  We have considered raising the level of each grant to encourage application.  The goal is to award the annual interest and leave the principal in perpetuity.

SKIN CANCER SCREENING: Dr. Giannelli stated that the only screenings that were well attended were the congressional screenings.  We can no longer offer that screening due to congressional law changes.  We would like to encourage all of our members to consider attending at least one screening per year.  Dr. Epps stated that we need community outreach as part our mission and to fulfill our 501c3 non-profit status.  Members can contact Dr. Nina Fisher or the members of the new committee if you become aware of any screenings or to find out about upcoming screenings.

Respectfully submitted,
