WASHINGTON D.C. DERMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING MINUTES
Date: June 7, 2005
Host: National Institutes of Health

Business Meeting

  • Dr. McKinley-Grant called the meeting to order at 7:00 P.M.

Old Business

  • The May 24, 2005 minutes from the Howard University Hospital meeting were unanimously approved
  • A survey was sent out to the membership to discuss the start times and varying days of the DC Dermatology meetings. Here is a summary with the table of results:
    • A majority of the members liked the Sat. Fairfax meeting
    • A majority of the members liked the 4:30 PM start times for GWU and Children’s
    • The most common response for what day and time to hold the meetings was to keep it the way we had it this year, i.e. mostly Tuesdays at 6:30 but with a few institutions having an earlier start time. We must be certain to give plenty of notification for these exceptions.
    • A majority of members wanted 10-15 patients presented at each meeting
    • A majority of members enjoyed having one non-academic meeting per year
    • All members wanted a clinical, practical, or surgical pearl presented at meetings
  • DC Derm Web Site
    • We’ve reached the point where a DC Dermatological society Web Site is going to be necessary. Dr. Robert Silverman has received three proposals so far for designing a six to eight page web site that will include:
      • A public section and a password protected members section
      • Meeting dates, times and locations
      • Current Membership with office locations
      • A link to register for the 2006 Atlantic Dermatology conference
  • Chuck Grasmeder will step down as the WDCDS Administrator as of July 2005. We all thank him for the fine job he did as we search for a new administrator. A job description was included with last months minutes. Any interested candidates should contact the DC Derm officers.
  • Officers for the 2005/2006 Season
    • President Sandra Read, M.D.
    • Vice President Mark Welch, M.D.
    • Secretary-Treasurer Vincenzo Gianelli, M.D.

New Business

  • New Members
    • Dr Alison Ehrlich’s application for membership was approved.
  • An Atlantic Dermatology planning meeting will be held in September
    • Specific date to be determined
    • All officers and chairpersons will be expected to attend.
  • Membership dues
    • In the past, DC Dermatology dues for the year that the society sponsors the Atlantic Dermatology conference have included the registration fee for the conference. A motion was made and the members present at this meeting voted to continue this practice.
      • The 2005/2006 DC Derm dues will be $375. This will include the registration fee for the 2006 Atlantic Dermatology conference. All DC Derm members will be registered for this conference.
      • There will be a reduced registration fee for residents
      • Residents who present patients will have no registration fee.
  • Realignment of WRAMC and NNMC
    • The Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) commission has recommended realigning Walter Reed Army Medical Center and the National Naval Medical Center as follows:
      • Close the medical facility on the Walter Reed campus in DC
      • Relocate tertiary care services to the Naval Medical Center campus in Bethesda, establishing it as the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (possibly a five year time frame)

Adjournment

  • The business meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
