WASHINGTON D.C. DERMATOLOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING MINUTES

OLD BUSINESS

  1. The January Minutes from Georgetown University Hospital Meeting were unanimously approved.
  2. Dr. Michele Mak-Fung’s application for membership to the society was approved unanimously. Dr. Giannelli welcomed her to the Society.
  3. Dr. Mark Welch gave a report on the Capitol Hill Skin Cancer Screening and the Guinness World Record Screening. Both screenings were very successful. Several members of Congress and their spouses were screened. Dr. Welch and Dr. Read were featured on Good Morning America during the Guinness World Record Screening which took place at Union Station on May 6, 2006. Dr. Mark Welch thanked all of the following Society Members who volunteered for these screenings:

    CAPITOL HILL SCREENERS : Dr. Sandra Read, Dr. Bud Giblin, Dr. Bob Silverman, Dr. Bill Sawchuk, Dr. Vincenzo Giannelli, Dr. Barbara McAlpine, Dr. Ella Toombs, Dr. Steve White, Dr. Barbara Williamson, Dr. Inia Yevich-Tunstall, Dr. Alicia Braun, Dr. Andrew Montemarano, Dr. Stephen Krivda, Dr. Chuck Toner, Dr. Maithily Nandedkar, Dr. Agnieszka Kupiec-Banasikowska, Dr. Mana Ogholikhan, Dr. Katalin Korossy, Dr. Doug Richardson and Dr. Mark Welch himself.

    GUINNESS WORLD RECORD SCREENERS: Dr. Sandra Read, Dr. Lynn McKinley-Grant, Dr. Bruce Glassman, Dr. Inia Yevich-Tunstall, Dr. Pantea Tamjidi and Dr. Mark Welch himself.

  4. Dr. Sandra Read reported on the great success of the Atlantic Dermatological Society Meeting. The attendance was high and the evaluations received after the meeting are proof of its great success. Dr. Read thanked all committees’ members as well as all of the dermatology residents for their contribution and hard work.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Dr. Sandra Read thanked the NIH clinical staff for hosting the last D.C. Dermatological Society meeting of the academic year.
  2. Dr. Sandra Read reminded all about the National Cancer Institute request for referral of patients with metastatic melanoma or with positive lymph nodes at high risk for recurrence. Dr. Steven Rosenberg sent a formal request to all members of the D.C. Dermatological Society. To refer a patient please call : (301) 451-1929 or email: Jkryk@cc.nih.gov or Lwilliams@cc.nih.gov.
  3. Dr. Vincenzo Giannelli gave an update on the Society financial status. However, a more complete accounting report will be given at the next meeting since several transactions related to the Atlantic Dermatological Society meeting are still pending.
  4. Dr. Sandra Read announced the new officers for 2006-2007:
    President: Dr. Mark Welch
    Vice President: Dr. Vincenzo Giannelli
    Secretary Treasurer: Dr. Roselyn Epps
  5. On August 1, 2006, the 2006-2007 meeting schedule will be mailed together with the dues notice.
