Dear Washington DC Dermatological Society,
Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to attend the annual Society for Investigative Dermatology (SID) meeting in Montreal, Canada. The meeting was a terrific experience, both personally and professionally.
I presented my research, “Utilization of a new tissue expander in the closure of a large Mohs surgical defect.” This work was conducted with Dr. Amir Bajoghli, Chief of Dermatology & Mohs Surgery at INOVA Fairfax Hospital and Dr. Duyen Faria of Excel Dermatology. Dr. Bajoghli has been instrumental in guiding my career development while as a medical student attending VCU School of Medicine (INOVA Campus).
Additionally, the SID meeting provided the opportunity for mentoring and networking. I attended the Women’s Dermatologic Society luncheon where the talk was entitled “Pearls from the Jewel Box of Academia”. Speakers included notable physicians and scientists: Dr. Lisa Beck, Dr. Suephy Chen, Dr. Angela Christiano, Dr. Kathleen Green and Dr. Amy Paller.
Moreover, I was thrilled to meet Dr. Marie-Louise Johnson at the residents/fellows dinner. Among her many accomplishments include first woman president of the American Dermatological Association, first woman elected to the Institute of Medicine within the National Academy of Sciences and first dermatologist to travel to Japan associated with the Atomic Bomb Casualty Commission.
This experience was truly invaluable, and it could not have occurred without your assistance.
With many thanks and sincere appreciation,
Jane Yoo
